SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 - CAIRO (D) Arrive Frankfurt at 8:35AM. Connect with Lufthansa Airlines flight # 584 nonstop to Cairo, leave at 2:10PM, arrive at 7:10PM. You will be met by Ya'lla Tours USA Egypt representative and Egyptologist / tour guide and driver and transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 - CAIRO (B,L,D) Your private Egyptologist / tour guide and driver will pick you up to start your tour. Drive to Giza and visit the pyramids. See the Great Pyramid, the Royal Burial Chambers and the Sphinx. Continue to Memphis, capital of the Pharaohs during the Old Kingdom. Visit therecumbent statue of Ramses II and the 80-ton Alabaster Sphinx. Lunch en route. Continue to Sakara to see the prototype of the pyramids, the Step Pyramid, built for the 3rd Dynasty Pharaoh Djoser by the exalted architect Imhotep. Continuing south, visit the Pyramid of Dahshour. King Senefru, father of King Cheops, built this pyramid, also known as the Red Pyramid, approximately 4,600 years ago. Many scholars consider it to be more glorious than the Great Pyramid of Cheops. Tonight, dine in a restaurant near the hotel, with a great view of the illuminated Pyramids. Return to your hotel for overnight.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 – CAIRO (B,L,D) Drive to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities for a detailed, guided tour. Among other fascinating exhibits, see the treasures of the Tomb of Tutankhamen and the extraordinary Mummies Room. Over ten mummies, including that of Ramesses II, are displayed in freestanding glass cases in this climate-controlled room. Walk around the mummies and examine them from all angles, gaze into their incredibly well preserved 3000-year-old faces. Leave the museum and enter Old Cairo and walk back in time. Visit the Old Coptic Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. Lunch en route. Continue to the Church of Abou Serga (St. Sergius). Visit this church and the whole area of the Fort of Babylon, a destination of pilgrimage not only for Egyptians but for Christians from around the world. An air of piety and devotion pervades the whole district. After their short but eventful stay in Old Cairo, the Holy Family moved to Maadi. The historic church built upon the spot from which they embarked is dedicated to the Virgin -the Coptic St. Mary Maadi Church. Coptic tradition also tells that Moses was found on this spot. In 1976, a Holy Bible was carried by the Nile to the bank below the church. It was open to Isaiah 19:25, the passage declaring "Blessed be Egypt My People". The Bible is now behind glass in the church’s Sanctuary of the Virgin for all to see. Tonight, dine in a floating restaurant while sail on the Nile. Enjoy the food and a typical Egyptian Folklore show. Return to your hotel for overnight.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 - ST. CATHERINE (B,D) Depart Cairo and drive to the Suez Canal. Take the tunnel under the Suez and arrive at the Sinai Peninsula. Visit on the way: Eyoun Moussa (Moses’ Spring), Hamam Pharaon, Church of Wadi Feiran. Arrive at St. Catherine for dinner and overnight. Our hotel, MORGENLAND VILLAGE, is a 2-star property nestled in the mountains of south Sinai, only 2 miles from the monastery of St. Catherine. Hotel guest rooms have telephone, satellite TV, and air-conditioning. Facilities and services include a restaurant, a Bedouin tent hosting traditional barbeques and desert music folklore shows on request, a swimming pool, a shopping center including a medicinal herb shop, laundry service and 24-hour room service.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 - TABA (Red Sea) (B,D) Wake up at 3:30AM and climb the Mountain of Moses. According to tradition, it was on this mountain that Moses received the Ten Commandments. It lies south of St. Catherine's Monastery and rises to a height of 7,497 feet. From the top, experience the spectacular sunrise as the dawn breaks over this land of penetrating beauty and mystery. This hike is only for people who are very fit and experienced in hiking. Descend for breakfast at the hotel. Visit the monastery of St. Catherine, which sits at an altitude of 5,150 feet on the reputed site of the “Burning Bush.” Commissioned by Emperor Justinian, the monastery was built between the years 527 and 565 in the name of the Alexandrine martyr who died in 307. Depart St. Catherine for the Red Sea for an early check in and a free afternoon on the Red Sea. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 – DEAD SEA (B,D) After a late breakfast leave for Taba, on the border with Israel. Cross to Israel, meet your tour guide and drive north and visit the Timna Valley and climb on King Solomon’s Pillars. Continue north to the Dead Sea Resort for a free afternoon, dinner and overnight. Our hotel, SHERATON PLAZA SPA, is a beautiful hotel, located at the shores of the Dead Sea with its own luxurious spa. The hotel has 215 rooms with hairdryer, mini bar, telephone, radio, cable TV, 24 hour room services and safe deposit box. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 - TIBERIAS (B,D) Continue north to Masada. Take the cable car to the top of the rock and visit the Roman palaces, storehouses, synagogues and bathhouse, which witnessed the Jewish resistance to the Romans approximately 2,000 years ago. Descend by cable car and drive along the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley to Tiberias for dinner and overnight. Our hotel, SHERATON PLAZA TIBERIAS a 5-star property located on the Promenade, on the shore of the historic Sea of Galilee. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 - TIBERIAS (B,D) Drive to Tiberias and see the Galilee Experience multimedia show. Then take a private boat ride across the Sea of Galilee and arrive in Kibbutz Genosar. Visit the fisherman's boat found in 1986 and dating back to the days of Jesus. Continue to Capernaum for a visit to Peter's House. Continue to the Church on the Mt. of Beatitudes, where the Sermon on the Mount took place, Tabga and the Church of the Multiplication. Our day at the Sea closes with a visit to the Jordan River, where you have the opportunity to be baptized as a witness of our faith. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
TUESDAY, SETEMBER 23 - TIBERIAS (B,D) Drive to Zafed, one of the four holiest Jewish cities. Visit the art galleries and the ancient synagogues. Then on to Mt. Meron and the Tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. Continue through Moshav Dalton and Alma high into the Galilee to Nebi Yesha and see an old British police station that the Arabs used to attack the Jewish villages until 1948. Very heroic fights took place there and we will visit the memorial, hardly visited by foreign tourists. Drive to the Upper Galilee for a visit to Tel Dan and visit the ruins, dating back to the days of King Solomon. Continue to Banias (Caesarea Philippi) to see the source of the Jordan River and the site of Peter’s confession “…you are the Christ” (Matt. 16:18). Then climb the Golan Heights and stop at a breathtaking view point on Mt. Bental where you can see Syria, the UN zone, the Upper Galilee, and Mt. Hermon. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 - JERUSALEM (B,D) Depart Tiberias and drive the Lower Galilee. Stop in Cana and visit the Church of the Wedding. Drive to Nazareth and visit the Church of the Annunciation and St. Joseph’s Grotto. Drive to Megiddo (Armageddon) to see the site of the Armageddon, King Solomon's Stables and walk the water system. Continue to Mt. Carmel and the Carmelite Monastery of Muhraka, where Elijah fought against the prophets of Ba'al. Drive to the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Caesarea, once the Roman Capital of Palestine. Visit the Theater and the Aqueduct. Then climb the Judean Hills to the most beautiful city in the world, Jerusalem, for dinner and overnight. Our hotel, SHERATON PLAZA, is a beautiful 5 star hotel, with spacious rooms and a great "homish" atmosphere. It is located in a down town Jerusalem, across from the Great Synagogue and the American Consulate. It is near a small shopping mall, and is only 10 minutes away walking from the Old City. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 - JERUSALEM (B,D) Drive to Chaiphas House and see the dungeon where Jesus was held before his trial. Drive to Mt. Zion and visit David's Tomb and the Last Supper Room. Enter the Old City through the Zion Gate and start a walking tour of the Old City in the Jewish quarter. Walk down the stairs to the Western Wall, the only remains of the Second Temple and the holiest site for Judaism. Visit the Temple Steps, the original steps that led to the entrance of the Temple 2,000 years ago. Visit the Davidson Center for a multi-media presentation about Jerusalem in the days of Jesus. Then visit the Wall Excavations, also known as the Rabbinical Tunnels. Drive to Magen David Adom (the Israeli Red Cross) when we will arrange for those who wish to donate blood. Learn about the activities of this organization in Jerusalem. End the day with a visit to the Alyn Hospital. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 – JERUSALEM (B,D) Continue to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. A special Yizkor Service (Remembrance) will be held at the Valley of the Communities with a local Jewish Cantor. Drive to Bet Guvrin for a tour of the fabulous Bell Caves and the historic Bar Kochba Cave. These man made caves have been used as workshops, burial places, water storage, places of refuge, and movie sets (scenes from Jesus Christ Superstar were filmed here). As we make our way north towards Jerusalem, we make a brief stop at Tel Bet Shemesh, between Tzora and Eshta'ol, the region where Samson battled the Philistines. Pause to overlook Tel Azekah, where the Lord rained great hailstones on Israel's foes. Continue through the Elah Valley, site of many confrontations. Here, the battle raged while the Lord caused the sun to stand still in the sky; here also, David slew the giant Goliath. Return to Jerusalem for Shabbat dinner and overnight.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 – JERUSALEM (B,D) Drive to the Mt. of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem. Visit the Church of Pater Noster, Our Father, and the Church of the Ascension. Walk down the Mt. of Olives and see the site where Jesus predicted the future destruction of Jerusalem (Dominus Flevit), and then on to the Church and Gardens of Gethsemane. Enter the Old City through St. Stephen’s Gate to the Christian Quarter and visit the Pool of Bethesda, St. Anna Church, and the Lithostrothos at the Ecce Hommo Arch. Walk the Way of the Cross to the Holy Sepulchre Church. We end our pilgrimage with a visit to the Garden Tomb. This tomb beautifully illustrates the scene where Jesus rose again. Many Protestant denominations hold the Garden Tomb to be the location of Jesus’ Resurrection. We will have special time for prayer and meditation. Return to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.
